Updating
Anyone got tips on how to quickly and painlessly (:)) update full slack dist to current?
|
Do you really need an update or do you update just because you want to be up to date?
Ona never release of a distro like Slackware, they only update the kernel, glibc, gcc and stuff like that. You can update all of those by hand. Okay, if Pat changes some important scripts or security related stuff, my wrote text is useless ;) |
Here is how I did it...I haven't had any problems yet.

Well, I would say it depends on your definition of quickly, and also of painlessly ;). I personally dislike upgrading core components of a distro, especially since slackware 8.1 isn't as brand spanking new as it once was. And after a few problems caused by using swaret (autopkg) I looked towards slackware-current installations.
You can either find information on creating your own isos, or you can find unofficial builds at this site: http://bioserv.biol.vt.edu/ISO/ |
