updating
 

Well i just tought that i could need to update to the latest version of all programs etc.
is there any way to do this without checking all programs that are installed (that came with the installation of slackware) and find they webpage and update?

Install Swaret and edit its configuration file
Then run
If u will set it up to update your configuration to "current" instead of 9.1 u will have the latest stuff.

Unless there is a specific issue you're dealing with that an upgrade would solve, you might want to just leave things as they are. There's no real point in upgrading just for the sake of upgrading. If on the other hand some kind of security hole was discovered, then Yes, an upgrade would be beneficial, but otherwise, unless the new release contains features that would directly affect you, you may want to just leave it alone. -- J.W.

I have to agree with J.W. There are things that are worth upgrading. Security fixes are always priority. However upgrading just for the sake of being current can cause some pain. I have experienced this more times than I care to think of. And I am selective as to what I upgrade. Very selective.

The whole point of the OS is to have it work for you. Upgrading can make you work for it just to keep it working properly or possibly crash your entire OS.

As a counter point....I have learned the most by breaking things. If it doesn't bother you to break things....then staying current will keep you busy.
