Up-to-date (20090529) k3b recorder detection problem

Hi guys,

First I want to say "Hello" as new Forum User.

And I want to report some problem with detection of DVD recorder on my Slackware box, running up-to-date system. Thus, k3b package version is
k3b-r948463-i486-1. Real k3b version is:

20090529 12:55 $ k3b -v
Qt: 4.5.1
KDE: 4.2.3 (KDE 4.2.3)
K3b: 1.63.0

The problem I have is well known by Google ;-) This is window popup describing "No CD/DVD driver found". Many solves points for permisions and groups problem. Permissions for write to device (/dev/cdrom), and groups that user want to use k3b need to belongs.

First, maybe some facts from kernel:

Quote:
20090528 13:52 $ dmesg | grep CD
scsi 3:0:0:0: CD-ROM TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653B D200 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
sr 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0

20090528 13:52 $ dmesg | grep DVD
ata2.00: ATAPI: TSSTcorp DVD+/-RW TS-H653B, D200, max UDMA/100
scsi 3:0:0:0: CD-ROM TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653B D200 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
As you can see, generic TSSTcorp device is found by kernel. Next, look at permissions:

Quote:
20090528 13:53 $ ls -l /dev/cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2009-05-28 15:29 /dev/cdrom -> sr0

mj@kanalia (Linux 2.6.29.2-smp) :: ~
20090528 13:57 $ ls -l /dev/sr0
brw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 11, 0 2009-05-28 15:29 /dev/sr0

mj@kanalia (Linux 2.6.29.2-smp) :: ~
20090528 13:57 $ id
uid=1000(mj) gid=100(users)
grupy=10(wheel),17(audio),18(video),19(cdrom),82(haldaemon),83(plugdev), 100(users),105(diff_ntf),107(diff_nlm),108(ntf_users),109(icecast)
So, I (user mj) can write (rw) to device /dev/sr0, because I belong to 'cdrom' group.

Unfortunatelly, this device can't be found by k3b software.

I assume, that for my potential question: "Do you have no problem with k3b recorder detection?", your answer will be "Yes, of course, my devices are recognized and configured properly" :-) So, can lead me to proper configuration on my box? I want to add, that previous k3b versions, installed with previous kde - KDE3 - packages, worked perfectly. Using kdesu and configuring software with superuser privileges doesn't solve my problem - root still can't detect my DVD recorder. Other tools, such a cdrdao can detect device:

Quote:
20090529 13:15 $ cdrdao scanbus
Cdrdao version 1.2.1 - (C) Andreas Mueller <andreas@daneb.de>
SCSI interface library - (C) Joerg Schilling
Paranoia DAE library - (C) Monty

Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver
tables.

Using libscg version 'schily-0.8'

3,0,0 : TSSTcorp, DVD+-RW TS-H653B, D200
What can be wrong? For further debug I have strace -fF from running k3b, at URL: http://mj.dziala.homeunix.org/k3b_pr...ace_log.txt.xz

Can you help me? Thanks.

Try adding yourself to the group disk. It might be that the hardware identifies itself in an odd way.

That doesn't work. Now I'm disk group member, and still "No CD/DVD...". Before this, root was default disk member already, and he wasn't able to detect device too.

Who of you know, HAL is or isn't used to detect hardware in k3b? I am aversed to navigate through all k3b sources... But I remember that VirtualBox cannot detect DVD drive using HAL, and I was able to use it while manually add proper line into config xml... So, what about HAL in K3B?
