uncommon modem problem

i couldn't get my modem working last time because of someting with my NIC, but i installed the modules for my nforce chipset and broadcom NIC and i could go online fine...until the next day.

next day after i got back on my computer i ran startx and i realized that my modem had just reset itself, and the "ethernet activity' light wasn't on anymore so i tried to open google in firefox/log into gaim but nothing. i have no idea what the problem is could any of you help me?

have you restarted since it worked ... maybe you loaded the driver manually ex. modprobe nicdriver

do you keep your modem connected 24/7?

is it a win modem? some of them have linux drivers but not many

so is the modem not working or is the nic not working or are both not working?
