unable to resolve domain names..

Hey

I just setup Slackware 8.1 on an old computer and connected it to my network.

My network setup is as follows:

cable -> win2000 machine (acting as router) -> slackware computer and my winXP computer

Now I set my connection on slackware as follows:
IP: 192.168.0.251
netmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 198.168.0.1 (address of NIC on the win2000 machine)
nameserver: 192.168.0.1 (also tried leaving this blank and using my ISP's nameservers)

whatever I do it just won't resolve any domain names, if i type in IP addresses it works fine

setting netconfig to DHCP results in no connection at all.

any ideas?

Post up what /etc/resolv.conf looks like. This is where I ran into trouble recently, and it was as simple as adding my ISP's nameservers to /etc/resolv.conf in this fashion:
nameserver 1.2.3.4
nameserver 4.5.6.7

Replacing 1.2.3.4 with the actual IP of my ISP's nameservers.

Cool

Post up yours as well, also try adding as I have shown above the names of your ISP's nameservers to your /etc/resolv.conf file.

Cool

after someone trying to help me on irc, my resolv.conf just says:

nameserver <ip for a nameserver>

the domain was fake, and I don't remember the ip off the top of my head..
