Unable to login to Slackware 9

Hi,
I installed slackware 9 full installation and it completed successfully. When I try to boot slackware 9 it asks me for my username. In the installation it never prompted me to create a user, so I assume i should enter 'root' for now. it then asks for the password, so i enter my root password, and then it says invalid login or something to that effect (i dont remember the exact words). so, i tried guest as te username and a blank password. that didnt work either. i then tried guest as the username and guest as te password and that didnt work either. so, although this may sound stupid, how do i login?

btw, im posting this from my win2k partition.

caps lock? reinstall

Same

You know, I just had this exact same problem with Slackware 9. I've done plenty of installs before and it has never come up until now. I was just about to reinstall but thought I would see if anyone else had the problem. It's not the caps lock either!

Any thoughts?

How could I setup a user after I rebooted without actually being inside the install, say off a bootdisk set or off the cd..

Are you using LILO or Grub,

Cuz you could set them to boot into runlevel 1, and access your system to add a user, and change the root password to someting that works.

In Grub (I don't know about LILO) you could edit the kernel line and add a 1 to the end so it boots into sinle user mode. (Press e to edit)

Lilo, I'll try that real quick.

Thanks!

At the LILO promt try Linux 1 (or similar it will probably vary for your system)
