Unable to get touchpad working on my Acer 5101 Laptop

Hi,
I have just now installed Slackware 11 on my brand new Acer 5101 Laptop. I installed 2.6.18 kernel. Now I find that the touchpad isn't working. After a bit of googling, I downloaded Synaptics Touchpad tarfile from linuxpackages and installed it on my laptop and made the following changes to my xorg.conf -
Quote:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Synaptics"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
EndSection
after this I started X. But I get the following error messages -
Quote:
synaptics no synaptics event device found (checked 10 nodes)
Synaptics The /dev/input/event* device nodes seem to be missing
Query no Synaptics: 6003C8
(EE) Synaptics no synpatics touchpad detected and no repeater device
(EE) Synaptics unable to query / initialize Synaptics hardware.
....
Being a relative newbie, I have no idea, what this means nor I have any idea as to how to over come this problem. Any suggestions, please?
My guess is that I have to install the kernel-modules for 2.6.18 kernel. But I do not know where (on which of the three CDs) they are located.

Or run 'xorgsetup', which may autodetect it, if everything else is good.

did you compile your own 2.6.18 kernel? Or you mean you installed the slack 2.6 kernel? which one? look in <disc 2>/extra/ and read this

O. K., I have reinstalled Slackware with 2.6.17.13 kernel and then installed the kernel-modules. Now the touchpad works by default. I was unable to find the kernel-modules for 2.6.18 kernel.
