udisks/KDE device notifier not working with custom kernel

Hello,

I built a custom kernel (3.12.6). It's working fine so far, but for some reason, the KDE device notifier does not pop up anymore when, e.g., plugging in a USB disk or inserting a DVD/CDROM. Opening Dolphin and choosing the device works, it mounts it. `udisks --monitor' does not output anything.

I compiled all options mentioned on the Gentoo wiki into my kernel, except for USB_SUSPEND, which I did not find, and which likely got removed. However, I also found no USB_SUSPEND in /boot/config-huge-smp-3.10.17-smp, which I was using previously. I enabled PM_RUNTIME instead -- to no avail.

What do I need to do in order for KDE's device notifier to work again? I'm using KDE 4.12 from Alien BOB's repository on Slackware -current 32 bit, in case it matters.

Hello,

I'd suggest you first build a 3.12.6 kernel taking as a basis one of the config files provided in /testing/source in Slackware 14.1 or Slackware 64-14.1 for kernel 3.12.

First, don't do any customization. If everything works, then begin customizing & rebuilding. That's the easiest way to get everything working at once, IMHO.

Hello,

I tried the huge kernel config on my thinkpad, as on the desktop I couldn't get the nvidia driver to install. And you were right: it works. Thank you, Didier.

edit: I needed to disable CONFIG_DEBUG_KERNEL (Kernel hacking -> Kernel debugging) for the nvidia driver to install.
