if you are running -current, then you can upgrade your sysvinit and udev, and then do what Pat said in his changelog (put all .new files in /etc/rc.d into place) and make sure your /etc/rc.d/rc.udev has an execute permission on it by doing
Code:
chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.udev
If you are not running -current, just do the last command (give an execute on /etc/rc.d/rc.udev
What's the verdict on needing to use 2.6 kernel with udev? I've heard mixed things. Just wanted to bring this up incase hosler is using the stalk 2.4 kernel.
I just got a question regarding udev and hotplug so I borrow your thread dont think a new one is needed.
I have done chmod a+x /etc/rc.d/rc.udev
And udev got activated, but hotplug was not disabled before activating, should I disable it now?
Or should I continue using hotplug and udev as well?
I asked about this in another thread. Recent versions of udev apparently don't require hotplug, whereas earlier versions do. So if you've got udev-0.96 from current I'm fairly sure you don't need to have hotplug running at all.

The changelog said it (udev-0.96) needs a 2.6.15+ kernel...
