udev 058- anyone have more alsa issues?
 

Hey all,

I updated my udev to 062 and had the same alsa problems that Pat declared. So, I found an old mirror with 054, upgradepkg, and things were working perfect.

Now that the new 058 has been added to -current, I updated, rebooted, and was experiencing the same sound issues (well, close; I DO have a /dev/dsp with proper perms, but it gives the error “Can’t find sound card!” when attempting to run /usr/sbin/alsactl restore ).

Anyone else experience similar problems?

Yep. On my otherwise Current (kernel 2.6.12) system, alsa works fine with udev-054, but not with udev-062 nor with udev-058. I'm sticking with udev-054 for the time being. I think there are a couple of other people on this forum who've mentioned the same or similar experiences. There may be a workaround, but I'm holding off on it since I don't feel that I need the latest and greatest udev.

Ok...nice to know not to upgrade udev.

I had the same problem, but I couldn't find a later version so I went with 10.1's udev-050. I just had to add my dvd and cdrw symlink rules and change some modes so software can use the device.

In my case, at least, the fixed udev-058 rules makes alsa happy. In other words, the package that PV listed on the 22july05 changelog is working properly, at least as far as alsa goes.

Fixed package name is udev-058-i486-2.tgz.

If any of you are working on this problem, PV would apparently like to hear how it's going, or so he says in the changelog. He sounds like he wants to put udev problems behind him.
