Tumblerd interferes with removable media
Tumblerd is responsible for preventing usb flash drives from being unmounted in XFCE and also optical disks will not eject.
Killing tumblerd process resolves the issue. Is there an official Slackware solution to this or is this an unresolved bug? |
Are there any video files in these flash drives?
If yes, it might be that tumblerd cannot find the needed codec to create a thumbnail for the video file. Also have a look at this. |
Same issue here. Good looking out, Kabamaru!

It is the video files of course. What I'd like to find out is whether there is a solution to this. If that patch from the other thread is any good then why is it not included in Slackware updates? And is there a config file for thumblerd to tell it not to try to create thumbnails for big video files. And if this is in fact hard coded in thumblerd then why would xfce, and more importantly Slackware, accept this kind of broken garbage and release it? |
I don't know why Slackware doesn't use the patch, I do know though that I use it to get my work done ;-) FWIW the new tumbler (1.26) has a new thumbnailer that is supposed to have solved these and other issues, but it depends on gstreamer-1.0.

Thanks Kabamaru.
I'll give the patch a try as I'm using Xfce right now. But I've just switched to Spacefm as I hate Thunar very much so maybe I will not run into the thumblerd problem any more. I'd still like to find out whether it's possible to disable thumblerd as I'd rather live without it than deal with this kind of mess. |
