Trying to use fglrx in Slackware 9.1...

I have:

AK79-G 1394 nforce2 motherboard
Athlon XP @ 1.92ghz
512MB XMS2700C2
Slackware 9.1 with 2.4.22

Anyway, here's my problem:

I'm trying to get X to work with a Radeon 8500LE. I downloaded, compiled, and installed the fglrx drivers, and X just crashes the whole box upon boot.

It does this whether or not I use VESA, ATI or the FGLRX drivers. No errors, just a hard lock. It doesn't even write to the error log. The only solution is that little round reset button.

Does anybody have any idea of whats going on?

Well for one, did it only start doing this after you installed the driver? Or has it always done it...

?
