Trying to run audacity gives error while loading shared libraries

Hi!
When I try to run audacity I get the following message -
Quote:
audacity: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_adv-2.6.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Now the required file libwx_gtk is present in /usr/lib/w_gtk/
Here's my /etc/ld.so.conf/
Quote:
/usr/local/lib
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/i486-slackware-linux/lib
/opt/kde/lib
/usr/lib/qt/lib
#/usr/lib/w_gtk
when I uncomment /usr/lib/w_gtk and run ldconfig I get the following message -
Quote:
/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_xrc-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_svg-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_stc-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_richtext-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_qa-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_plot-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_ogl-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_html-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_gizmos_xrc-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_gizmos-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_fl-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_deprecated-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_core-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_aui-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link

/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/w_gtk/libwx_gtk2u_adv-2.7.so.1 is not a symbolic link
So now my question is what should I do about it?
I hope the learned members of these forums can help me out this time as they have done so many time previously with my querries.

you need to install wxwidgets for gtk

And, i believe you should compile it to support 2.4, so

Code:
./configure --enable-compat24
