trouble shoot sound problem

I just installed slackware9.1, which I really enjoy. I got my GUI up and running. Now I would like to get my sound working. My computer is about 1 year old(an case that is helpfull), I am not sure where to start looking. If you could just point me in the right direction.

run /sbin/sndconfig from command line.It will configure your sound.
