Angry trouble installing gtk2

Hi
I'm trying to install dvd::rip

I've installed so far all the dependencies according to http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14...imedia/dvdrip/

except one : gtk2 (from : http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14.0/perl/perl-gtk2/ )

The error message is :
t/GtkStatusIcon.t (Wstat: 1024 Tests: 37 Failed: 4)
Failed tests: 19-20, 25-26
Non-zero exit status: 4
Files=229, Tests=5082, 88 wallclock secs ( 2.91 usr 0.43 sys + 60.36 cusr 4.94 csys = 68.64 CPU)
Result: FAIL
Failed 1/229 test programs. 4/5082 subtests failed.
make: *** [test_dynamic] Erreur 255

I'm kind of frustrated because the installation so far took me 2 hours

please someone, help !

GTK2 is installed on Slackware by default, so if you have the recommended full install there should be no problem with that.

Also make sure you build/install dvd::rip in root's login shell (eg. su -)

Could you please try building a newer version of the Perl Gtk2 package.

Because I tried building Perl Gtk2 1.247 and it did pass all the tests successfully.

You can simply change the version number in "perl-gtk2.SlackBuild" from "1.244" to "1.247", and of course download the "1.247" version of the Perl Gtk2 source.

Please let us know your results when building a newer version. Good luck.

@TobiSGD: Did you actually read the post beyond the subject line?

Also - a ".gtkrc-2.0" file in the home directory of the user you're running the build script as, can also make certain tests fail.

Hi everyone

thanks for your replies

1) yes i am root
2) Gtk2 may come long with slackware but I don't know if I did a full slackware install or if I had the right version
3) I could install Gtk2 1.247, I had to install a newer version of glib first > thank you MadMaverick9
4) I installed dvdrip apparently with no errors

but...

dvdrip starts, displays and now this is what I get when I try to extract :

It says the extractions has stopped, and that's probably a problem with transcode / libdvdread installion or maybe a problem with this dvd

by the way is this the right forum to discuss that kind of matter ?

Google the difference between 'su' and 'su -'. I'm not saying that that's definitely the case here, but lots of SlackBuilds fail if people run them as root without loading root's environment. Just to be on the safe side (if you don't do so), make sure you always change user with 'su -' when you work with SlackBuilds.

Do you build it in terminal window in graphical environment (TTY7)? Try to do it in real terminal (TTY1-6) - last time i compiled a perl-gtk-related package (it was some gmusicbrowser dependence), it failed with similar output.

fredak,

you can try to compile perl-gtk2 with the tests disabled. Simply comment out the line

Code:
make test
in the perl-gtk2.SlackBuild
