I am stuck.

I am attempting to install Slackware 9.1 on a Dell Inspiron 3200. It boots fine from the CD into the install script. Everything works fine until I try to Select source media. I have used both the auto and manual methods.

During the scan, the CD spins up, but then I get "There was an error attempting to mount the CD/DVD on /dev/hdc.....

I have used both the bare.i and the old_cd.i to no avail.

Looking at the output from dmesg I notice the following things.

The boot sequence sees the drive:

From this I think everything is fine.

But then the following appears repeatedly. I think this is from all my attempts to access the CD.

This exact text is repeated a number of times in the output with one exception. The File unit size entry was (288768) for one of the sequences.

Am I overlooking something obvious? Thanks.

Are you sure the CD is good? Did you burn from the iso images?

I'd try burning another copy on a different brand blank. I've had trouble with one brand of CD blanks that would not work consistently in a DVD drive when they work fine in CD drives.

Did you find a solution ? I have had te exact same problem on a Dell Inspiron 3200, I know for a fact the cd was definitly working before, when I received it, it had win 98 on it, so I tried Knoppix out on it (recent convert from windows to FreeBSD and liked knoppix alot and hav been using it for a few weeks now, thought it was a great Linux tryout) I had recently purchased Linux Format magazine, and wanted to give slackware a go. I am sure I have the partitions right, although thee does not seem to be a clear write up on itthat I can see in the magazine, and with so many distros around, googling can make your head spin and waste a great deal of time.
Can anyone give a newbie some pointers
