Triple boot with Slackware

I have a Dell 600m laptop, dual boot with XP and Xandros. I tried Slackware in the past, and would like to install it on this laptop, without losing my XP or Xandros installation. Please refresh my memory. Can I resize either the fat32 partition (d) or the Linux partion (Xandros) during the Slackware install, or will I have to use some other tool for this before installing Slackware? If I just let Slackware have the fat32 partition (D), willl XP, Xandros and Slackware be listed during boot up?

I know you can use cfdisk during slackware install to delete the fat partition and create a new linux partition on the empty space with cfdisk, (don;t know about resizing, you might need something else for that????)
and you will probably have to adjust your bootloader, what kind of bootloader do you use? lilo or grub?
If you decide to go with lilo which can be atomatically setup with slackware, i think you don;t have to change anything and it will list all three systems by itself.

I never do this kind of thing myself, but maybe it would be save to make a boot floppy for both xandros and winows first!!!!!!!

I don't believe that the Slackware install CD has any tools to resize partitions (I could be wrong about that).

But regardless, you could resize the FAT32 partition from the Xandros side and then install. Since it is FAT32, you could even resize it from Windows.

Ideally you should have nothing on the FAT32 partition, or at least make some backups. Resizing partitions is always risky business.

And when installing Slackware, it should detect the other OSes (at least Windows anyway) and setup the bootloader. If it only detects Windows, you can of course manually add an entry for Xandros then, or do it later after you have Slackware installed.

Oh i forgot,

besides resizing or deleting the FAT partition there's also a third option (just for the fun of it) you can install slackware on the fat partition itself, although i have never tried this myself

You can't install the normal Slackware system on FAT32, only ZipSlack.

But even if you could, it would not be advisable in any stretch of the imagination.

Google parted or qtparted (graphical frontend)

I think it can resize all but ext3.

I'm gonna do the same thing, just waiting for my "suse" download to complete, hope it uses lilo like slackware? I will be sure to post how it goes, my stuff is well backed up so I can recover or at least reinstall from any disaster! I will be booting winxppro first, then slackware 10.1 and I'm gonna throw suse in right behind it and try to use the same 2gb swap space for both linux installs since I'll be using only one at a time. I also have mepis on my laptop, but still have no idea what to do with these distro's, other than hopefully migrate away from windows completely..............

you might want to try topologilinux. it is based on slackware 10 and is exactly the same
except that it can be installed on a windows partition. you can boot into linux or windows.
or you could use it within windows using coLinux, which means you don't have to reboot
or do anything like that.

the website is
http://www.topologilinux.com/

Thanks, I'll check that out also... I always figure that there is a way to do most anything and I just haven't found it yet... Ultimately I'm looking to use an old "weak" computer as an always connected server, to access my personal and currently windows files for myself and a few friends, I am only trying linux because it is new and a challenge, I read it can be more secure, and I've grown to not trust windows or associated applications too much.

nope suse uses grub as default so u can install suse without any boot manager and
(create boot disks ) and add these stuffs to lilo

Yeh, slak seems to be complete, I am "NEWBIE" and don't even know basic comands at this point, so I am looking into distro's with easy setup help, pages, etc... I figure by I may know some comands by next year... Not so funny, but, I do read and will get the hang of this with a little help. I'm only interested in a suitable(legal) replacement for windows with all the frills... Not very likely that I'll get any deeper into the code than req'd... but who knows? Thanks...

Thanks for the replys. As my fat32 partition is mostly file storage, I think I will temporarily move those files, repartition, and install Slack there. This raises another question. Can Xandros and Slackware share the swap partition, or should I create a new one for Slack?
