I have slackware 10.1 .. tried to update the kernel by installpkg on those 3 tgz files in the cd2 in the testing folder, i think it was the generic, header, and modules.. had some problems.. so i tried the source and set it up to support sata by checking it in the config.. got that all setup ran lilo.. and reboot and i get this error at boot up..
VFS: Cannot open root device "802" or unknown-block(8,2)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(8,2)
any idea on how to fix this and get 2.6.10 kernel working on slackware?
First, make sure the kernel, kernel modules, and mkinitrd package are
installed (the current version numbers might be a little different, so
this is just an example):
Everything you need to use to make the initrd should already be on Slackware 10.1 if you did a full install. When I did this on my 10.1 install I simply installed the kernel and followed the following on my reiserfs install:
