Hi all. Well, I have enjoyed slack on my PII-455 Mhz so much, I decided to play with my old laptop (a Toshiba Tecra 740CDT) that is otherwise collecting dust. Afterall, I need someway to connect to my network when my wife is using the main system.
I initially tried Vector Linux because of its reputation for being optimized for small systems. The installation was only partially successful. Specifically, the bz2 file containing XFree86 was broken. So, I tried installing the xorg stuff from my slack 10 discs with partial success. Basically, I very quickly missed the flexibility of slack, so I decided to try it.
Most everything is working well (I'm using xfce rather than something heavy like KDE). Not surprisingly, sound is one thing that is not working. I ran alsaconfig which was unable to identify the sound card. Am I likely going to need to use OSS instead of ALSA or has anyone gotten ALSA to work.
Ideas or suggestions?
