TOR-there seems to be no tor.pkg- what now?
I'd like to use tor on slackware 12.1.
It seems, as if it is not inlcuded in the whole distribution and there seem to be no .pkg -files for tor.
Is that right?
So, what will i have to do now?
I think, i must use make and make install on the sources, is that right?
Yes, that's right.
Check the SlackBuilds.org website to see if someone has written a script to build it for you, and generate a .tgz package you can install using installpkg.
But i have another problem regarding the make!
On my parents' system i chose, not to install such things, which i would install, if it was my computer.
I unchecked the "d" package, for example, before installation.
And now it seems, as if not only libraries, compilers, binders and headers but also some necessary commands are missing, which indirectly are connected to, lets say, the d packege. And one of them is make.
At least i suppose.
I think, i haven't this, because i unchecked "d".
Is that right?
"make" is not indirectly connected with the d series of packages, it's directly connected!
For your convenience here's the list of packages contained within d:
So, if you want to compile from source you'll need to reinstall those. I'll leave it as an excercise to the reader to chose which ones you want to install, and since you've made it this far, I'll assume you know how to install packages without rerunning the installer.
Ok, thank You very much
With Slackware, it's a very good idea to install the development utilities. You will almost certainly have to compile something at some point. However, if you don't want to do that, there's a pre-built tor package from slacky.eu if you want to try it. I would trust slacky.eu about 50% -- but I'm paranoid, and the package is probably fine. It is available here.
