Question Time Restrictions - porttime - logoutd

Runing Slackware 8.1

How do I add time restrictions to user logins?

I've read man porttime and logoutd but I'm not exactly sure how to implement it.

I created an /etc/porttime file. I put therein a line that I found that was used as an expample in the manpages for porttime.

It goes like this:

*:time:Wk0900-1700

I created the user "time" and he can still log in outside the given time. I tried runing logoutd from the commandline as well as putting it in my /etc/rc.d/rc.S file. (Is that even the right file?) Does logoutd take an parameters?

In some instances on the internet, I have found that instead of using /etc/porttime, time restrictions are implemented using a /etc/security/time.conf file. Is this true in Slack8.1?

And, in nmy login.defs file, porttime is enabled.

Please help!

Hi,
I'm running slack8.1, and it's working fine for me (I had a problem with a typo first try though - SASU instead of SaSu )

Also, running logoutd made no difference. The user couldn't log in even when it wasn't running.

Just to be sure, start again, with a new user etc, and setting the allowed time to SaSu0000-2400
and if that fails... is your system time correct?

Allegro
P.S. Don't use su time to login, it won't fail.
