Can you post another shot that shows your bottom bar, and perhaps an opened application to see the theme.
I swear one of these days I'm going to take the time to set up Fluxbox (again). I've always used gkrellm in the past, perhaps I need to learn conky.
I think .conkyrc is written in lua now, so my guess is you really need it. http://www.lua.org/download.html is where the lua source is.
Once you build it with
make linux
you can build conky after
export LUA51_CFLAGS="-I$WHERE_LUA_SRC_IS"
export LUA51_LIBS="-L$WHERE_LUA_SRC_IS -llua"

thanks for the info, but i used a slackbuild that worked (with said dependencies in it's README).
