@JWJones, what's your fave tiling windows manager so far? Personally, the only one I avoid is ratpoison because of all the non-mnemonic keyboard shortcuts (although, you could probably shut them off and use xbindkeys, but what's the point of that? Also, I can't say my favorite terminal keyboard shortcut (Alt-Shift+Enter) is very mnemonic either...)

Xmonad seems cool for:

01. low-power systems, e.g. cheaper netbooks. (but I can't remember what its memory footprint actually is)
02. All text setups (a la what you have)

But not limiting the number of windows makes it an eventual 'point of no return' for most monitors (unless you're working on something larger than 30" perhaps; I work on a 26" and don't get much out of it after 8-10 windows, and that's already probably pushing it.) Also: stretching.

Al that said, I like xmonad from a programming perspective at least; xmonad Haskell code deconstructed

I've left Kde in the last month for Xfce4. I've admired Xfce for it's modular design for a while now. Because i used kde's icon only task manager with it's launcher rules extensively, i found it hard to move. I've weaned my self away from it now, and have finally made the move to Xfce4. I'm very happy using it. I'm using kwin as the window manager, which is something i'm unwilling to give up for many reasons. I'm also using Whisker menu, which is pure awesome.

^ Very nice! Did you know that you can do a similar "icon only task manager" thing with Xfce, too?

Slackware64 -current with AlienBob's KDE 4.13.2 :-

Screenshot - 06242014 - 12:01:51 AM.jpg

Just look at the RAM usage at idle, just look at it. I never had so much of idle RAM usage before with any version of KDE. I'm moving to Fluxbox.

Regards.
