Check the output of cpufreq-info, which governor is activated (on Slackware the user-space governor is the default when not running on a laptop)? I had to manually set all my cores to ondemand (if you use an Intel CPU better use pstate) in rc.local.
Thanks, but fan noise is not an issue. I use many large, slow-turning fans. I have a passive External SATA Drive enclosure whose single PS (presumably AT style) fan is nearly double the spl of my entire system. She's quiet!

While I am extremely pleased with performance, not only speed but how cool it runs, who doesn't want more at times and perhaps less when one doesn't need it. So while I have cpuidle enabled in my kernel I have all frequency scaling off. You have piqued my interest enough I plan to copy this kernel and then rebuild one with frequency scaling and see the difference. I'll do this after I bite the bullet for the upgrade install to 14.1.

Wow I haven't seen that book in so long I didn't recall the cover. So I searched and the only thing I see is a drawing of a wrench growing out of the center of a plant.
The wallpaper/background is actually a photo I got from Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) commemorating Comet Hale-Bopp. It was taken by a somewhat famous and very industrious photographer named Jerry Lodriguss. I had a very hard time choosing to part with the previous wallpaper, also from APOD, Devil's Tower

Hmmmm the only problem with choosing such a beautiful town for a desktop is nobody wants to put an icon on it! That is gorgeous. I have to venture a guess. Even though I see you're from Croatia, it reminds me of shots of some Greek towns, so is it in Greece?
