I used KDE almost exclusively with Slackware until last week sometime when I decided to try out Xfce. I'm really liking it, I haven't used KDE since then. I nabbed a conky file that trademark91 put up a little while ago and changed a bit. I don't know much about Conky so it's a (slow) work in progress.

looks good tribulation, one suggestion i would have is that unless your cpu is 2.8ghz, you might want to change the text after the cpu monitor, also, change the drive entries to match your own. from the looks of it, you only have a / partition, so you can safely remove the entries for /home as well as /shared and /storage. if you want your public ip address to be displayed, youll want to edit the .conkyrc to point to your own file. i use the command

Code:
curl ifconfig.me > /home/trademark91/.ip.txt &
in my fluxbox autostart. it grabs my ip information and prints it to a the file .ip.txt in my /home directory. you should add that command to your xfce startup, but change the directory of the file to be in a sane place for your system, then tell conky where that file will be so that you actually get an ip displayed.

Thanks for reminding me to modify my CPU and partition sections, I forgot to do that before taking that snapshot, silly me. Thanks for informing me about the public IP bit, I wasn't sure how to do that. I'll have to read up more on Conky and actually make it into something of my own.

No offense meant, but when I see your busy screenshot I immediately remember why I like tiling WMs.

None taken. I am definitely in the "clutter for clutter's sake" camp.

KDE 4.5 can do tiling. Just hit [Shift]+[Alt]+[F11] to toggle tiling mode.
