Having been told by various mods, in other discussions, that I am to remain on topic even if the OP doesn't I have learned that unless the topic is obviously supposed to be off-topic or a joke and in General I am always going to be serious. If your joke was funny, was obviously a joke, was in General then I wouldn't give a fat rats but it does not fit any of the 3 categories I just listed so serious I remain.

If you ever get to Australia I'll give you a beer, I homebrew them myself. We'll need to be careful about the blood rushing to your head (because you'll be upside down) combined with the effects of the alcohol content within a heavy duty homebrew.

If the purpose was an April Fool's joke, why did you wait nine days to follow up? You should have posted the result of the joke no later than the day after.
Oh, that's right. I am a malcontent.

What's your point?

I must be one as well. I am honoured to be in such esteemed company. Viva la revolution!!!!!!!

I thought it was funny. I say throw caution to the wind and let the April Fool's jokes occur at any time of day. Next year I'm planning one for 2:13 pm, GMT. Crazy, right?

My global answer to everything above and below is here.

I live in Poland. West of Poland is Germany. Germans put on the hats with the feathers to signalize that they joke. East of Poland is Russia. Russians put on the clown’s red noses to signalize that they joke. I put on both the hat with a feather and the clown’s red nose when I published “The Ultimate Slackware Poll” to signalize that it is an April Fool’s Day prank but I did not realize at that very moment that there are hundreds of the other complicated rules concerning these pranks all over the world. I am sorry!

It's now April fools + 9... maybe time to call it a day? (Less of these spam threads in the Slackware forum would also be nice.)

For what it is worth, I live in the United States and have never heard of that rule either. I would not worry too much about it.

Yep that's why I suggested maybe it should have been in General.

BloomingNutria,

You may wonder why I – as a Pole – use German hat and Russian nose to signalize that I joke. What happened with the Polish traditions?

I would like to explain you that Poles dance in order to express different emotions. We dance:

● krakowiak to signalize that we joke,
● kujawiak to signalize that we are lost in thought,
● mazurka to signalize that we are angry,
● oberek to signalize that we are confused,
● polonaise to signalize that we are serious.

You should know that krakowiak used by Poles to signalize the jokes is a fast, syncopated dance. It is practically impossible to dance krakowiak and post a thread in LinuxQuestions.org at the same time. So I used a strange hat and a fake nose.

Randicus Draco Albus 04-11-2013 05:59 AM

That post is funnier than the joke.

Since this thread appears to be resisting a natural death, perhaps a moderator should move it General, where it would not interfere with support threads?

The statistics and an interpretation

After 50 voters chose some statements I decided to count the statistics and to interpret them. The statistics are objective. The interpretations are subjective. One may interpret these data the other way than I did it.

Here are all 50 voters together with the numbers of the chosen statements:

Code:

    36 Eternal_Newbie
    12 NorthBridge
    11 chemfire
    11 Bazzaah
    10 w1k0
      9 Pode
      8 ozar
      8 PrinceCruise
      8 Evilus
      7 BloomingNutria
      6 ttk
      6 samac
      6 eyeofliberty
      6 bartgymnast
      6 Mark Pettit
      5 tuxbg
      5 brianL
      5 Z038
      4 markush
      4 gauchao
      4 fietser
      4 cwizardone
      4 Totoro-kun
      3 whizje
      3 roberto967
      3 imitis
      3 gianco
      3 _ZeD_
      2 zbreaker
      2 trevoratxtal
      2 tdos20
      2 phi11ip
      2 irgunII
      2 bassplayer69
      1 wildwizard
      1 slacker77
      1 shanek54
      1 naradla
      1 mattallmill
      1 maciuszek
      1 larrystorch
      1 kooru
      1 frushiyama
      1 franzen
      1 emgee_1
      1 chrisretusn
      1 aaralynatikah
      1 Daedra
      1 Cultist
      1 Anisha Kaul

In my further interpretations I pass over Eternal_Newbie’s votes because he chose all the statements. That may mean everything from the total approval to the total rejection (including the most probable completely automatic action). Someone selecting all available options is in some sense similar to the one selecting none of them.

From the statistical point of view the most interesting are the people who – having the opportunity to choose up to 36 statements – selected just one. Among first 50 voters there were 16 such people.

10 of them – Cultist, Daedra, chrisretusn, emgee_1, franzen, frushiyama, mattallmill, naradla, shanek54, and slacker77 – selected the most obvious option here: “Slackware rocks!”.

6 of them – Anisha Kaul, aaralynatikah, kooru, larrystorch, maciuszek, and wildwizard – selected one out of five statements:

– Anisha Kaul: “This conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.”

– aaralynatikah and kooru: “Not bad for a human.”

– larrystorch: “My brain is falling out.”

– maciuszek: “Beep Bloop Blop Bleep Boop.”

– wildwizard: “我不明白".

At that point it is worth to discuss the poll itself. I put the sentence “This conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye” near the beginning of the poll in order to allow some people to vote and to express their disapproval for the poll at the same time. I do not know the other people’s intentions but – from that point of view – it seems that Anisha Kaul voted expressing her disapproval. It is very elegant attitude so I thank her very much.

Just after that statement I put the craziest one: “Beep Bloop Blop Bleep Boop”. I think that maciuszek had a great fun choosing that.

I put the statement “My brain is falling out” into the poll in order to allow some people report their confusion. larrystorch took an advantage of that option.

The last statement – “我不明白”– apart of the literal meaning – “I do not understand” – can be interpreted as well as: “None of the above”. wildwizard took an advantage of that option.

There are more statements allowing to express a disapproval in my poll: “This conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye”, “Thanks for your cooperation”, “This is so wrong... this is so wrong!”, and “Incredible... it’s even worse than I thought it would be” are the most obvious ones.

There are at least three statements allowing to express a confusion: “Would you please repeat the destination?”, “My brain is falling out”, and “This is tangled. This is tangled”.

As for the overall selection of the statements which I did I tried to put about 4 positive statements for 3 negative ones according to the proportion of “Slackware rocks!” to “Slackware sucks!” statements found in Internet (4,200 to 3,230). Apart of the positive and the negative ones there is a bunch of the neutral statements in my poll.

***

The rest of that post is interesting mainly from my point of view.

Here are the voters which selected the same statements which I selected during the voting (I skipped here the statistics for the most popular and the most obvious at the same time statement “Slackware rocks!”):

Code:

      9 w1k0
      9 Eternal_Newbie
      4 ozar
      4 Pode
      4 NorthBridge
      4 Evilus
      3 tuxbg
      3 chemfire
      3 BloomingNutria
      3 Bazzaah
      2 ttk
      2 samac
      2 eyeofliberty
      2 cwizardone
      2 bartgymnast
      2 Z038
      2 Mark Pettit
      1 tdos20
      1 phi11ip
      1 markush
      1 maciuszek
      1 kooru
      1 fietser
      1 brianL
      1 aaralynatikah
      1 PrinceCruise

As I mentioned above Eternal_Newbie chose all the statements so the convergence of his votes with my votes means nothing.

From my point of view the most interesting is the convergence with 4 voters: Evilus, NorthBridge, Pode, and ozar. The last one shares with me the second after “Beep Bloop Blop Bleep Boop” most craziest answer: “You pop!”.
