The Firefox MPlayer Plug-in

I'm trying to get the MPlayer Plug-in to work with a few things. For most things (quicktime moves for example) it works fine. However, there are a few internet radio streams that I listen to that I can't get to initialize. The FAQs at the stations' websites all state that the streams are MPlayer compatible and I've successfully run them with Ubuntu and even with the Gnome Slack Build, but I can't get it to work now.

I've tried both the Slackbuild and the package at Slackware-Current, but neither seem to work. The plug-in loads, it tries to launch the stream, but then just stops.

I've tried messing around with a few things, but really don't have a clue what to do.

try to find out how the programs involved could spew what's going on (logs, straces, ???)

having a klue is a prerequisite for any solution?

htop can strace a running process.

I like the packages for Slackware from linuxpackages too...
YMMV

I don't think streams will work with mplayer plugin, I could only get them working with xine plugin. However, I would recommend the Media Player Connectivity extension for FF, I believe they do work with it.

What are the Media Player Connectivity extensions?

Actually, through a lot of trail an error I got it to work in Konqueror. (Dugan Chen's FAQ was a lot of help.) What's even more odd is it works fine with Fox in Xfce. So maybe it's some GTK dependency?

And as you say, I got the Xine (Or rather Kaffeine) to work okay, but it only works with a few media types and I get conflict errors if I have them both installed. I tried to edit the MP plug in conf file to change the associations, but that only seemed to make things worse.

Also, I haven't figured out how to edit Kaffeine to not open in another window.

Why don't you link to the streams you're trying to open, so we can try ourselves?

I got it to work well enough with the Media Player extention plug-in and Kaffeine. It's in idyllic, but it works and I'm not going to worry about it any longer.
