Linux users now have a chance to enjoy Video and Voice chat in Gmail, based on GMail's blog. So far, only deb files are provided, so there are no source yet.
I have created a SlackBuild script for Google Talk Plugins based on Erik Hanson's Google Chrome SlackBuild script, but i'm still unsure to send this package to SBo project because i need more testing on it's stability and also it's functionality.
Can anyone download the SlackBuild from RapidShare and test it?
Comments for improvements are welcome
Thanks
Update: RS link has been updated with the new SlackBuild script which should link correctly on x86_64 systems
Update 2: Another update on SlackBuild script to improve correctness (build-3)
Update 3: Update script to remove unused directories properly (build-4)
Conclusions:
- It works on 32bit and 64bit systems with multilib
- It doesn't work in pure 64bit systems as the 64bit package comes with a 32bit binary (investigated by Erik Hanson)

Reason: Updated Build-4
Your slackbuild installed correctly on Slack64 here. But not working now.
I found these links as indicated in /tmp/SBo/package-google-talkplugin/install/doinst.sh
are linked to files in /lib and not the respective directories in /lib64.
Any option to correctly link them in /lib64 also, so it may work on pure Slack64.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I am running Slackware64-current as of 31.07.2010, with kde-4.5 from alien's packages.
Hm... i don't run 64bit system here, so i can't test them here
it seems that the plugins are for 32 bit system, as Google Chrome provide x86 and x86_64, but not for this plugin
The x86_64 plugin package can be downloaded here: http://dl.google.com/linux/direct/go...rent_amd64.deb
My friend just found it
i'll do more testing on x86_64 systems before i put the updated SlackBuilds on RapidShare again
Another update on SlackBuild script (now build-3).
Changelog:
- Better detection on x86_64 systems
- Move to appropriate lib64 in x86_64 systems
- Remove unneeded Debian-spesific documentation

upgraded to the new version of the slackbuild on x86_64 current, and now all I have is "the following plug-in has crashed in /opt/google/talkplugin/libnpgtpo3dautoplugin.so". Sound is ok but no video.
@escaflown: what problem do you have on earlier attempt so it would crashed? and what was your solution to fix it?
perhaps i'm missing something on the SlackBuilds
I am running Slackware64 13.1 and was able to get this script to repackage the 64-bit deb file with no problems. In Chrome, aboutlugins shows the Google Talk plugin, however when I go to GMail and go into the Chat settings, it cannot seem to turn on the video. Am I missing a step? Going to http://www.google.com/chat/video asks me to download and install the plugin...

I'm getting the same behaviour. The plug-in is installed but there is no evidence of it in gmail and gmail Settings thinks it's not yet installed. Odd behaviour.

same here. Even though i'm already able to use video/voice feature in GMail, when i go to that website, it still asked me to download and install the plugin
