Cool Tarting LILO up

Afer using SuSE 8 for a while I have moved over to Slackware 8.1 now.The only thing that's bugging me is LILO, where I used to have a fancy graphical menu to choose from, I now have a drab looking black white and red boot screen. Is it possible to add a bit of colour to LILO, or had SuSE seriously hacked at LILo to make it do that?

Read the current lilo docs. You can have background spash screens, and semi-graphical menues. It might take a little work to get it all setup though.

Also, afaik SuSE is running grub. Which is more extravagant when it comes to graphics, but serves excactly the same purpose.

If you mean the default partition to boot into, add or change the line:

Default = label

in the "global" or top section of your /etc/lilo.conf file, where "label" is the name of the OS as it is listed in the OS sections below on the list.

Change the count down timing by adding or changing the line:

Timeout = nn

where "nn" is the time in 1/10's of seconds.

After you make these changes, rerun "lilo" to install the boot loader changes.

There should be lots of documentation on lilo in the /etc/doc/lilo-xxxxx directory (I think), you might have to "make" it from the Latex sources if there isn't a (*.ps) postscript file already made. Also do a "man lilo.conf".
