Tape Drive in Slackware 9

Anyone have experience with a tape drive running in any slackware version?? I'm not sure of the manufacturer of the tape drive, I pulled it out of a very old 486 computer and thought I would use it to run backups for me, but when I installed slackware 9 I noticed it didn't pick it up. In the BIOS there is no option for a tape drive really...so I'm not sure what to do, if anyone has any suggestions let me know.
