Question Tainted Kernel


I get the the tainted kernel msg when it tries to load my sound driver module and USB modules. they end up getting loaded by force. any1 can tell me how to fix this?

I assume that you have loaded modules not part of the orginal slackware stuff.

On my machine I have to make a new module for my audigy soundcard , I get the 'tainted kernel' too.

But from what I know & heard : simply ignore it !

I think the message comes , because the source for the modules is not opensource . . .

In my point of view , It's just a silly message . .

K I'll just ignore it then, since my sound does work. what's funny is that when I try to modprobe my sound module it says it's been compiled with gcc v.2 and my kernel's been compiled with gcc v.3, but I compiled the sound module with gcc 3. confusing... >.<

No, if your Kernel is tainted, you're using Software or Modules who is not free/open source.

Example: If you're using the nvidia drivers, your kernel will be tainted.
