Since I switched to the 2.6.11.* kernels, every time I shutdown my system, it boots again after some time. I usually notice this when I shutdown the system in the evening: The next morning the system will be booted, although it _clearly_ shutdown (no fans to hear, no harddisk activity, blank display, no LEDs blinking).
I cannot think of where to start with debugging. It happens with version 5 and 8 of the 2.6.11 kernel lines (I did not try any other though). Older kernels and Windows do not have that problem.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem or knows what can make a PC boot up "on its own"?
I have no "wake-up-on-lan" option in my Bios, but set the option "AC/Powerloss" from Last State to Power Off. Maybe the PC thought it lost power and thus booted after that.
May I ask what the loopback-modlue has to do with it?
It has nothing to do with the BIOS settings. I changed them, tried the default settings it is always the same result. If I shutdown my PC from kernel 2.6.11.* it will sometimes boot up. However other times only the fans seem to be running and the graphic-card and the hd seem to be not active.
I really cannot explain that behavior and will probably try to play around with all possible ACPI and APM options the kernel offers. If I find something I will post it here, but it will take some time.....
