Synology PXE + Slackware Files

Evening folks

I know its not really Slackware related but just thought i would ask from the community in case someone knows.

Anyway i have a Synology NAS ds213j i just found out this can act as a PXE server too (kind of handy in a way) Documentation is a bit slim on the subject and most are in a foreign language.

1: 1st thing ive done is create a shared folder with no user/pass as the root of the PXE, this is also done via SMB and not NFS.

2: TFTP server is running on the NAS also.

3: DHCP is running on the server

On the root of the folder i am supposed to have

{
pxelinux.cfg (folder)
----- Default (file)
chain.c32 (file)
mboot.c32 (file)
mboot.c32 (file)
memdisk (file)
menu.c32 (file)
pxelinux.0 (file)

}

Now i see there are a few downloads for this on the internet but can these or SHOULD these be taken from the ISO? This would be for x64 Slack, Is that all the files for a PXE server, should there be more or less?

I know slackware can act as a PXE server from the DVD by using pxesetup but neither machine has dvd drive and i am quite curious on setting this NAS up as a PXE server.

Any help would be appreciated or thread moved as required

This should give you the general idea: http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/...tory_structure

Note that the tftp boot directory does not have to be shared by SMB or NFS. The TFTP protocol will ensure that those files are served up on demand to any PXE client that requests them.

Cheers Alien Bob

I found your page after posting (very informative and easy to follow) and managed to get everything in the same order as yours EXCEPT pxelinux.0

Your command wants me to cp form /usr/share/syslinux/pxelinux.0 but i'm doing this from a windows machine how do i get the pxelinux.0?

Download https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/uti...linux-4.06.zip
unzip the archive.
You will find pxelinux.0 in the "core" directory.

TIP: on Linux we can use the "find" utility to find a file, maybe there is an equivalent in Windows.

But feel free to list the files you can't locate and we will tell you where to find them.

PS Or, you could just put the Slackware ISO image on an USB stick (on Windows you could use Rufus for that), launch the installer and as soon as logged in as "root" just run "pxesetup" exactly as you would do with the DVD installer.
