Switching From Mandrake to Slack
Ok, hi guys. Just to give you a heads up, I'm most likely going to be posting around here a lot. I'm switching from Mandrake 9.1 to Slackware 9.0. I would like to know anything that I should know. Is there anything that can help me along in my journey through Slack? Anything would be helpful. I've got some things like the One Page Linux Manual but is there anything else that could be of some help or could you give me some tips as a first timer on this?

Get comfy with the command line and a text editor.:D
Almost forgot Google is great:D:study: |
You will have a much better time if:
you dont expect things to be done FOR you. You dont mind reading man pages you do research before you ask a question. you dont mind compiling you dont mind checking/fixing dependancies yourself. you dont mind the CLI. |
and you learn CLI editing like vi or emacs or pico :) (i love vi now :P)

Defenetly look at the Slackware book on the Slack site. It doesn't follow 9.0 exactly but is pretty close. I am a new Slackware user and I followed this book and had no problems with the installation. Don't be intemedated by Slack, just follow the installation screens step by step and read what they have to say carefully. Are you dual booting with XP? If so look at the booting chapter and look at the section called NT, they have a nice section on how to dual boot NT/XP with Slack. Good Luck, I think you will like it.;)
