Switch to generic kernel freezes system
 
I installed the generic kernel using the steps listed here-
http://docs.slackware.com/slackware:beginners_guide

However, when I went to switch to the generic kernel it locked itself up and refused to load further. I'm unsure as to whatr the problem might be, any help is appreciated.

did you create the initrd? What error does it lock up on?

I forget the error, but yes I created the suggested initrd and put it in lilo.conf after

For making an initrd, running '/usr/share/mkinitrd/mkinitrd_command_generator.sh' is your friend.

I ran the command and it's the same as the first time I tried making an initrd.

Rather than guessing,
1. What command did you use to make the initrd?
2. What do have in /etc/lilo.conf?

Oh, and did you run lilo after making the initrd and editing /etc/lilo.conf?

I used what was suggested with /usr/share/mkinitrd/mkinitrd_command_generator.sh.

Here is my lilo.conf-

The initrd is loaded by the "initrd = /boot/initrd.gz" line.
Just add the line right below the line for the kernel image you use.
Save the file, and then run LILO again ('lilo' at the command line).
You'll need to run lilo every time you edit lilo.conf or rebuild the
initrd.

That did it. Would it be good to leave the huge kernel as a backup or just remove it, and if so, how?
