Great, I tried my luck with swaret again, and again it renders my system unusable. When I type startx , it comes back out with an error, and so I tried running xorgconfig again, and tried again, and still I can't get in Xwindows, also it seems to not detect my soundcard anymore , so tried alsaconf , and it didn't find my soundcard, and I can't really post the logs cause of the length, and I don't know what to look for eactly in the logs....I need some ideas on how to proceed.. :-(
What was the error when you startx? If it's about the keyboard, make sure you have 'kbd' under the device. If that's the problem, make sure to read changelogs before you update, and stop using swaret
1. Make a backup or copy of your entire /etc directory incuding subs before using swaret.
2. Look in the X log file in /var/log for lines starting with (EE) and post those here
3. What audio card are you using and are you using alsa or oss ? Please post some details as well as the output of lsmod.
4. I don't like tools like swaret much. Learn to cope with updates without using these kind of tools. If you want a can-do-anything packagemanager please consider Debian
ok, here is parts of the xorglog, i don't know how much of use this is .........

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support

for help.
Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.
what were you upgrading to? I got similar problems when I upgraded from 10 to current. Make to check the chnagelogs before upgrading. I couldn't figure out the issues and had to re-install.

I wish those who have more experience in Linux and swaret would give a little more detail on what to expect and what exactly to change in order for swaret to update the system without so much trouble, I mean, I have been checking not only this forum, but also reading the files that comes with swaret and such, and also trying things on my own, as well as taking other people's advice on this forum (and I am truely greatful that my questions are answered, even though some, if not a majority of them, seem rather asinine) but it is hard enough for a newbie like me to try and keep a decently updated and working system when a program mean't for system updates only breaks things, which causes someone like me to just have to reinstall again. I WOULD like to keep learning how to work with linux , managing it, keeping it relatively up to date (i know that having an always up to date linux system is rather absurd, due to so many new things that are added in just a weeks time or so) but it has already been a few months since the release of slack10 , so I would have at least liked to have someone just a bit more updated , and not only that , also to compile a kernel WITHOUT error , having only features that I truely need.....
I think that you also need to keep in the mind the scope of the changes that are being made when jumping from slack 10 to current. Xorg is different is biggest one. This can change lots of things. Also swaret is not officially endorsed by Slackware anymore.
Keep in mind that people here are volunteers. Lots of figuring out Linux is trial and error especially when dealing with a distro such as slack that is not as "friendly" as some others.
SWareT didn't break anything. It did exactly what it was supposed to do.
No one can forsee all the possible issues that you will have. The "keyboard"/"Keyboard"/'kbd" issue is a great example. The "keyboard" driver has been a legacy driver for some time. "kbd" was available even on the last xorg release. If you were already using "kbd", no problems. If you were still using "keyboard", problems.
so in the swaret.conf i should just set the version= 10.0 then? Also, since swaret is no longer offically part of slackware, is there something else that the distributors include? or no?
If you want Swaret to update your system to current, I would suggest that you only install the bare minimum. After that, get swaret instalelled and running, and update those base packages to current. THEN use swaret to download and install everything else like x, kde, etc. That's what I've done and I haven't run into any problems (that was with current back in the 9.1 days, now I'm happy with keeping 10 at 10).
