swaret -- configuration?

Hello,

I just downloaded swaret. When I run the doinst.sh file, it asks me to rename the config file and edit it.

What are the settings that need to be mandatorily changed before I use swaret?

I havent used swaret in a while but the one I remember is to change the version to 10, if its not already or if you want you can try current but there have been issues with current.

Yes. I changed it to 'current'.

Is that all right?

Yes, its ok. Youll just get all the most recent package versions updated. I remember when I used current I had to remove KDE and download all the KDE packages and install them manually and some other stuff went haywire with current, that was about 4 months ago, maybe things are ok now.

How do I get swaret to connect to the internet?

I tried the command
Code:
swaret --search firefox
But it could not find any matches. How do I find out that swaret is connected to the server?

I have never had that problem, but I always update KDE when I am not running it.

swaret --upgrade
swaret --update

I remember you have to specify the exact name with version, at least when I used it to find a specific file/program.

Hey. If it's very similar to apt-get I think I can learn it easily. By the way, is there any GUI front-end for swaret like synaptic for Debian?

There is one somewhere called kswaret but I have never really used it, so can't tell you how good it is.

#swaret --install firefox
or
#swaret --install mozilla-firefox

The commands are not exactly like apt, so you may just have to read the documentation.

Well it looks like I just messed up my Slackware.

I tried booting into the precompiled 2.6.7 kernel by copying the files to the /boot partition and now I get a kernel panic error message.

did u make the initial ramdisk in your boot folder?? What filesystem are you using? If it's not ext2, then you will need to make the initial ramdisk. When using swaret don't just blindly upgrade the packages read the changelog.

Code:
swaret --changelog
and watch out for any special instructions.
