I havent used swaret in a while but the one I remember is to change the version to 10, if its not already or if you want you can try current but there have been issues with current.
Yes, its ok. Youll just get all the most recent package versions updated. I remember when I used current I had to remove KDE and download all the KDE packages and install them manually and some other stuff went haywire with current, that was about 4 months ago, maybe things are ok now.
did u make the initial ramdisk in your boot folder?? What filesystem are you using? If it's not ext2, then you will need to make the initial ramdisk. When using swaret don't just blindly upgrade the packages read the changelog.
