Swaret broke X11, not getting 'Could Not Start kdeinit' error

Updated some files via Swaret, and I knew there was trouble when I went to start Firefox, and it wouldn't start.

I rebooted, and tried to start X, and I got the following error:

Code:

could not start kdeinit
I tried to rebuild the X11 file with xorgconfig, but X still won't start.

Any ideas on how I can rollback to the older version of x11 via Swaret ?

thanks

If you do a search on this forum, you will find it is rife with

Before 'updating' ANYTHING, you must read the changelogs for it.

As for how to roll it back, there is a rollback feature in swaret. Read it's documentation.
To return to the previous setup, however, you may have to reinstall X from the cds. Read/search this forum for how to 'fix a broken install after using swaret'.

Search first.
Read next.
Check the changelogs.
Then, if you feel you can handle it, use your 'update' tools.

I'm really not trying to be a smarty pants about it, but a quick forum search of 'swaret' would reveal all the info you needed, without posting.

I knew I would be scolded for this. But in the interest of time, swaret is one of the best options I have to manage Slackware packages.

thanks

I just did an upgrade of 11X and kde with swaret, all ok except it said fontconfig was missing.
I installed fontconfig-2.2.3-i486-1
and all was well.
Of course this may not be your problem, but I thought I would mention it in case.
(It puzzled me, as I thought I already had fontconfig)

edit: then I read the changelog :-)
fontconfig and freetype have been taken out of 11X (I already had my own separate freetype package)

Ok...so I got 'lucky.'

I did

swaret --dep x11

and it took care of everything, and I was able to restart X with no troubles/worries.

AND, this is the second time I have been burned by swaret, and each time it has been x11, I've never had any other problems with programs.

Anyways, I promise to start to read the changelogs or if I don't understand what the hell it is going to change, then post here first.

thanks again everyone...
