Swaret

I just downloaded it and I can't figure out how to istall it, can someone please help. Also after I get it installed what are some things I can do with it?

kodon 08-31-2004 09:14 PM

i downloaded it as a slack package, so to install it was:
su
[password]
installpkg swaret-#.#.#-noarch-1.tgz

you could also do:
su
[password]
pkgtool

You can read the documentation that came with it. It's better than somebody holding your hand through it all.

root@Slackware:~# su
root@Slackware:~# installpkg swaret-#.#.#-noarch-1.tgz
Cannot install swaret-#.#.#-noarch-1.tgz: package does not end in .tgz

swaret-1.6.2-noarch-1.tgz.tar that is the name of the file I downloaded.

I found your answer. Wanna know how? I googled it; I searched for "tgz.tar", and found a thread on this forum. You must run "tar x <filename>", which unpacks the archive; then, install it from there.

Thanks I don't have much free time to look around for horus for a thread that was started 20 years ago.

It took me less than 30 seconds :)

The "swaret.tgz.tar" is a server bug from Swaret's server. You can just remove the tar from the file name, and it works.

you need to replace "#.#.#" with YOUR version numbers

you will also need to edit /etc/swaret.conf to make sure VERSION and NIC are correct as well as uncomment/add any repositories you might want to use

"swaret --update" will update package information
"swaret --upgrade" will ask you which packages you would like to upgrade
"swaret --upgrade -a" will automatically upgrade all of your installed packages
"swaret --install" will ask you which packages you would like to install that are not installed
"swaret --install -a" will automatically install all packages
"swaret --help" will explain the options to you

*note: some packages have problems when upgrading with swaret...for instance, whenever qt is updated by swaret i lose the ability to do "make xconfig" until i remove qt, install the old version, remove the old version, then re-install the new version. should probably kill the xserver before upgrading

make sure to re-write the /etc/swaret.conf.new as /etc/swaret.conf Check out shilo.is-a-geek.com/slack. Go to the "I wanna be updated" section.
