svgalib

In the upgrade.txt in slackware current it says

Quote:
l/svgalib: this package includes the helper module for the official Slackware kernel(s), so if you install a custom kernel, you will need to rebuild the svgalib package.
How can I rebuild a package and do I have to rebuild it every time I update my kernel or that package itself is updated.

I've built many custom kernels, and never rebuilt svgalib. So far, I haven't had any problems.

yes

you must compile it for each kernel.
download the sources(the slack ftp is
the best location to grab them because
all the patches are there), then either
compile it manually or use the edit
the slackbuild to suit you.

This is just for information.
If you are using kernel 2.6.19 or later, you might need
add patch to svgalib source.

example) svgalib-1.9.25-linux2.6.patch

nothing will "break"

you just won't be able to use svgalib apps
such as links, zgv, mplayer, xmame, etc
until you do compile and install it for the current kernel

I see. I guess that's why it never worked for me. Not that I care too much, I think lynx is much better.
