Suspend and hibernate

I have been trying to get suspend and hibernate working on one of my Slack 14 systems. On another system, suspend works just fine, and hibernate doesn't.

Can anyone suggest a good resource that covers suspend and hibernate, and they seem to be common problems. When I asked a couple of locals, they just rolled their eyes, and said good luck.

So now there is some motivation.

Oh, the systems in question are all desktop, and the power button works. The one which does not suspend does not respond to a pm-suspend.

You need to give more details dude !!

1.What is your system's configuration? (Particularly your desktop's graphic card)
2.How big is your swap partition? You need your swap partition to be as much as your RAM size.

To answer your question, a google search of "linux suspend and hibernate slackware" should be able to point to some helpful resource(s).

P43G MB with E3300 processor
4gb ram (dual channel) (800 mHz)
21GB swap space
Onboard graphics (Intel GMA3100)

I specifically did a google search with the words you suggest, and others, and find little that is applicable to a Slackware 14 system. Most postings I find are from 12 or earlier.

I'm not trying to get someone else to do my homework, I am just trying to get pointers or a push in the right direction.

Thanks!

That is a VERY good resource for a system that is not set up to Hibernate, but Slackware already is; all you really have to do is set up LILO to be able to Resume: http://www.slackwiki.com/Hibernate

Thank you both. The slackwiki is exactly what I was looking for, and I can work with that. I am using grub, vs lilo, but I can make that work just fine.

Thanks again.
