Question Supermount feature in Slackware?

Hi!

I've just installed Slack 9.1. I also use Mandrake. One thing I'm missing is the easy way to mount and umount I experience in Mandrake where everything works like in windows which I prefer when it comes to this.

I've tried to change the fstab file in /etc but I still can't find the same way around in my Slack system. An example i can't access my cdrom automatically and push the button and it unmounts itself and ejects automatically.

Any help and solution here, is that what we call supermount? if it is how do I use it?

Thanks!!!

KDE usually mounts CD's automaticaly...if you access it from services/devices ...
btw: get kde3.2 beta 2 ^^
it rocks ^^

Mandrake uses a kernel patch called supermount to automatically mount CD-Roms and other media.

Supermount is actually quite buggy, and definitely not recommended. It's not like mounting is that hard to begin with. mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom

Just make buttons on your toolbars for mounting, if it's that much of a hassle.

I use this bash script, I have it on my desktop in KDE:

Code:
#! /bin/sh

if mount | grep iso9660
    then umount /mnt/cdrom
else mount /mnt/cdrom
kfmclient openProfile filemanagement /mnt/cdrom

fi
I save it as cdmount and chmod 755.

When you click it, it checks to see if there's a cd already mounted. If there isn't, it mounts the cd and opens the konqueror file manager. If there is a cd mounted, it unmounts it so you can eject it.

You can change the file manager you use to open the window by changing the kfmclient line, eg. to use rox filer you'd use:

rox /mnt/cdrom

I also have alink to /mnt/cdrom on my desktop, for opening the file manager to the cdrom again without remounting it.

Credit for this goes to some other dude whose website I stole this off ages ago, can't remember the site though.
