Strange /ftp folder in /home

Hi all,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but it's new to me, never happened when I had RH9 and SuSE:

After installing Slackware 9.1 I have a folder in my /home called /ftp (it's empty)

Is this normal? Why is it installed by default? Can I delete it?

Thanks,

Odin

I'm not certain, but I think any time a new user gets added, a directory gets created for them in /home. ftp might be the pseudo-user who "owns" any ftp-service related stuff on your machine; there's probably also a group called ftp.

It probably doesn't hurt to delete it, but it definitely doesn't hurt to leave it there

Wapcaplet,

I'm the only user on my box! Plus it's the same thing on my laptop when I installed 9.1, and nobody uses any machine but me.

It is there by default, so it's normal. You could use it as your ftp-root if you wanted to, but it is safe to delete it I guess .

/home/ftp/ is where anonymous FTP users are chroot-ed to, should you choose to enable anonymous FTP.
