Last night I decided to install Slackware on virtualbox and play around with Steam there, as to not screw my system.

What confused me is that same games that do not work on my real machine work just fine on virtualbox.
Some examples: Half-Life, Counter-Strike. Didn't test more as obviously they work.

Now what confused me is the fact that both my real machine and virtualbox have the same stuff installed.
Hello,

Have you verified the integrity of game cache as stated here ?

I had trouble with some steam games and sometimes this can help.

That is a good thing to know for anyone who is troubleshooting Steam issues, SeB!

What I was thinking heiser891: the only real difference between your real computer and VirtualBox is the Nvidia graphics. Did you actually install the 32-bit part of the binary NVIDIA driver? The Steam games depend on the 32-bit graphics driver on a multilib computer.

I have. It's the first thing I do if a Steam game gives me trouble.

32-bit non-Steam games were working just fine.

Anyway, I decided to reinstall Slackware again.
Installed slacky.
Then downloaded the multilib and applied.
Installed Steam and made sure that it works with Nouveau first.
Then I proceeded with NVIDIA driver v334.21

For now it is working fine.
If it breaks again I will reopen the thread.

Thanks to all for the feedback.
