startx problem
Hi!
I`ve just intalled a fresh copy of Slackware 10.2 including all the X window system that comes with Slack 10.2 CD. Then I installed seperate nvidia driver downloaded from nvidia.com. Then I edited xorg.conf and changed "vesa" to "nvidia", also did necessary changes for my monitor. Then I started x - everything went ok. GUI is running, everything is working fine till my first reboot. So I rebooted 1st time and after reboot I can`t startx anymore. "Fatal server error: Cought signal 11" What does it means and why? The only changes I`ve made in my first session in KDE is wallpaper change, thats all. In fact I`ve only started x, made sure everything is working and rebooted. So after reboot this error. Any ideas? Thank you. |
when you installed the nvidia driver did you edit xorg.conf,
If no remove dri and glcore and change driver "nv" to "nvidia" |

Yes, I edited xorg.conf and changed "vesa" to "nvidia", also did necessary changes for my monitor thats why I could run GUI first time, but I don`t understand why I can`t run it after reboot? |
Hi Sushy
Have you looked in /var/log/Xorg.0.log ? Sometimes the log is quite useful when troubleshooting. |
I installed slackware a few days ago and i'm having the same problem. Worked fine for a while, and then all of a sudden couldn't startx anymore. I'll check the logs right now as suggested, but if anyone has a more definative solution to this problem please post.

nvidia sucks. get a new card. :D

Hmm...I had the same problem. Check your Xorg.0 log and tell me if it's because of the GLX driver...if so....
Here, the email I got from nvidia that solved the problem: Quote:
