Startx erorrs. Can not start kdeinit Check your installation

Information
  • I am running kde.
  • I was removing stuff I don't want in pkgtool earlier to make my system run faster
  • After I was Done with pkgtool, my computer ran much slower then usual.
  • I looked at what this one program was, xine, and it froze
my computer, or it ran unimaginable slow. I just ended that session, and went to start a new one, startx, everything looks right, until a window poped up, Can not start kdeinit. Check your installation I clicked okay
Any ideas why this happened? Or how I can fix it? I would be fine with reinstalling slackware, but I have to know how to make backups of all my data via commandline. Or maybe just install a window manager again, but how would I do that?

I would prefer to just backup my data, install slackware, and then put my backed up data on the box. How would I back up the data via command line and save it so a cd?

I think you're missing a library. I had that same error when I first set up this Slack install. There should be a list of packages you removed in /var/log/removed_packages. Maybe that will clue you in to what you took out.

No experience with it, but I think you can run cdrecord from commandline to burn cds.

for a gui approach try using xcdroast from disk two-I think.
for a command line approach check this link http://mlug.missouri.edu/~rjudd/proj...d/README.multi

Good luck

this is kde stuff. try someother window manager and see whether it is working or not

this message usually come when we dont have permission on the home folder.
earlier i had same pro, but i "chown" ed and solved the problem. it is nothing to do with slackware,

do "ps -ax", identify the running processes. do "cat /proc/meminfo" see how much ram is consumed

You have made my week. Thank you so much. I am so happy now.

Before I do anything, how would I acess the files on it, since the file was .iso?

I don't know what to google for.

edit:
Ohh yeah, I don't think I converted .tar.bz2 to .iso correctly. I did:
mkisofs -o backup.iso backup.tar.bz2
The iso was 0 bytes. I don't get it.
Edit:
Disgegard that iso burning thing.
