start GDM without X auto

how do i set GDM to start when i type - startx - so that i then have to re-login as graphical?

I am a fan of the fortune at the start and wish to keep command line at the beggining - or am i dreaming?

In Slackware runlevel 4 is used for that. Runlevel 5 is the same as runlevel 3.
So that would be 'init 4'
