src2pkg ( trackinstall ) and Adobe Reader 8.1.1

Hi,

Thanks gnashley for src2pkg (1.6) and the trackinstall that comes with it. (Slackware 12.0)

I fiddled around a bit until I came up with the next (hey I don't know much, but, yes, it worked).

(download and then) extract the (it's a binary with an INSTALL sh script) acroreader 8.1.1 tar.gz file

trackinstall -S -i='sh INSTALL'

That made me a Slackware 12.0 package. acroreader was repeated twice in the package name though. (But I merely renamed the package before I installed the package).

al@AB60R:/var/log/packages$ lsg read
adobereader-8.1.1.1-i486-1

This Acroreader works very well. Maybe it does consume a bit of cpu:

root@AB60R:~# ps aux | grep Adobe
al 16069 1.2 1.8 136112 70328 ? S 23:15 0:22 /lib/ld-linux.so.2 /opt/Adobe/Reader8/Read ntellinux/bin/acroread /home/al/Desktop/ThePerlReview-v3i3.pdf

It's not taking cpu now. (It only went up higher when the reader itself is first opened up then it's cpu useage quickly tapers off).

Works pretty nicely. Hand tool not enabled by default (menu, tools or etc. I enabled the hand tool). Click a url loads the url in Firefox for me.

Very nice display, fonts, etc. (I've enabled bytecode interpreter and am using liberation ttf fonts).

Glad to hear that it worked for you.
Actually, renaming the package is not such a good idea since the name of the package should match the name in the slack-desc file. This means that no text shows up in the /var/log/packages/* file, nor when you run pkgtool. This used to cause packages to not be removed properly by removepkg, but I think it will now remove them okay even when this text is missing. Still, for the sake of consistency, try rebuilding like this:

trackinstall -S -n=adobereader -v=8.1.1.1 -i='sh INSTALL'
