Your Squid cache directory /usr/local/squid/cache has not been initialized. This must be done before Squid can be run.

i press the button and this comes up

Initializing the Squid cache with the command /usr/local/squid/sbin/squid -f /usr/local/squid/etc/squid.conf -z ..

I have had little experiace with squid, but a quick idea off the top of my head is, are you running this as root? You would need to be root to create that directory.

hey i got it going, i'm not sure what i did differently, but when i came to work (i have a slackware box at home and at work) i installed it and it's working now, so i'll go home, give slackware a re-install and see how i go with configuring it, but now my problem is with understanding squid, does anyone know any good walk-though's for squid? i've got it up and running and i'm trying to access the web via my slackware box but it tells me that access is denied, anyone know of anything that will help

i'm currently running samba as a PDC and i want squid to authenticate against samba, my aim is to make the authentication process seam inconspicuous
