Speedtouch USB on slackware 11

Hi guys,

I've been trying to connect a slackware box to my broadband service via a USB speetouch (the old green one). I have been quite successfull by following this:

http://www.lrr.in.tum.de/Par/arch/us...LFS/index.html

up to where the Howto explains how to connect to the service.

Here's the buggy thing, when I do pppd call speedtch, I get:

bash-3.1# pppd call speedtch
Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.
PPPoATM plugin_init
PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm - SUCCESS:0.38
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> 0.38
Warning - secret file /etc/ppp/pap-secrets has world and/or group access
Warning - secret file /etc/ppp/chap-secrets has world and/or group access
CHAP authentication succeeded
CHAP authentication succeeded
kernel does not support PPP filtering
local IP address 89.145.***.***
remote IP address 217.47.***.***
primary DNS address 194.72.***.***
secondary DNS address 194.73.***.***

(my apologies but I felt I had to hide the whole IPs since they are static, but they are right)

And then that's it, the computer still isn't conncted to the net. I tried to ping google etc and I get host unreachable. However, if after running pppd call speedtch, I do startx and connect the box to the internet via dial up, then the broadband connection becomes active!!?? It doesn't seem to be working at full speed though but it works like broadband!!

So I basically am quite confused about this, I did try both recommended firmware version for my modem and the problem stays the same. This is kind of getting in the way a bit since I was planning to use a slackware box permanently connected to that service via the speedtouch and also use it as an access point with an atheros card to connect other computers to it...

I am not giving up on this at all, however if someone could send me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate.

Found the answer, there are actually several version for this howto and I got mixed up while following them. I would recommend this one for slackware users and make sure you follow it well until the end =):

Enjoy

I use steve parkers speedtouchconf script which can be found here

http://steve-parker.org/speedtouchconf/

it works fine with slackware and takes about 2 minutes to get connected, it also configures your box to connect to the net on boot.

Ah, it's working again ^^, there seem to be a problem when doing a symlink from /etc/resolv.conf to /etc/ppp/resolv.conf...
